The UNU-FTP collaborates with institutions in our partner countries to select qualified candidates to participate in the 6-month training programme in Iceland. The UNU-FTP is an institutional capacity building organization, for that reason, we do not accept applications from individuals. Rather, our partner institutions nominate potential candidates who are then interviewed by UNU-FTP staff. Selection of fellows for the 6-month training are based on several criteria, including the following:
- The candidate must have at least one university degree.
- The candidate must have at least two years of experience in the field of specialization that he/she will pursue at UNU-FTP.
- The candidate needs a strong command of English (must be able to speak, read and write) because the working language in the UNU-FTP is English.
- The fellows are selected through an extensive personal interview, preferably at their work place, where he/she needs to be able to:
a) prove their ability to communicate in English
b) explain their work and the role at the institute
c) discuss and identify current problems in the fisheries sector and its development priorities
d) display in-depth understanding of their professional work and how it relates to the fisheries sector.
