Namibia has highly developed marine fisheries. Recently the most experienced stock assessment biologists have left their posts and without training their replacements. In the course the use of R statistical programme was introduced. The stock assessment model used for the Namibian marine fisheries was analysed and explained.

The course was developed in partnership between senior scientists and NatMIRC and the Marine Research Institute in Iceland. The course was held in Swakopmund on 26 og August to 6 of September. Ten scientists from NatMIRC took the course.
