In 2007 the short course development project on Project Cycle Management in the fisheries in Sri Lanka was initiated following discussions with the Sri Lanka fisheries officials on the immediate needs within the governmental fisheries institutes in Sri Lanka. What was in particular identified was the lack of capacity within the ministries and governmental institutes to develop and formulate projects in relation to cooperation with donors and distribution of funds. The course material was developed by experts from the University of Akureyri in Iceland, ICEIDA, and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Sri Lanka and its institutions (NARA and NAQDA).
